"When I walk into my atelier to start a new painting, I look at the white surface, feeling into it, and the first color that comes to mind is where I begin. I start by pouring the paint—laying the emotional ground—then continue by layering transparent colors and lines, shifting between abstraction and figuration until the image comes into form, lucid and present. That’s it…
I see my art as a portal—an invitation into the depths of being, emotion, embodiment, and transcendence… EROS."

Kohlene Hendrickson is a Californian-born artist based in the medieval village of Romainmôtier, Switzerland, where she has lived since 2000. She studied Fine Arts at Otis Parsons School of Design in Los Angeles and worked for over a decade as an illustrator and art director before returning to painting.
Her studies in fresco with Frederico Vigil, in the lineage of Diego Rivera, led her to Italy, where she discovered encaustic painting, an ancient technique using natural materials. Since then, she has developed a distinctive multi-media process combining beeswax, resin, pigments, and gum arabic, creating works that merge transparency, texture, and depth.
Hendrickson’s practice explores dimensionality, embodiment, and the cosmic nature of Eros, blending abstraction and figuration to evoke the intimate connection between the human and the universal.
Her work has been exhibited in solo and group shows across the United States and Europe (France, Italy, Switzerland, and Austria).
