Margot Maaskant

"In recent years, I have become increasingly concerned about climate change. By capturing nature in my own way, I document the changes through my paintings. I capture the change creatively for now and for later. I notice that the trees have fewer and smaller leaves, creating a different shadow pattern on the ground. It is fascinating to paint about this. In some periods, there is an enormous amount of rain, making entire areas inaccessible. And yet, the abundance of water also provides inspiration, a new look in familiar territory, the familiar environment takes on a different appearance.

For me, in addition to concerns for nature, this also provides new inspiration. A new world is opening up, a new world is coming. We don't yet know what it will look like, but I am curious and will certainly capture it in oil paint."

Margot Maaskant is a Dutch painter who has worked as a professional artist since 1997. She graduated with honors from Kunstacademie St. Joost / Avans Hogeschool Breda in 1997, following earlier training in graphic design at the Grafisch Lyceum in Rotterdam. Over more than three decades, she has developed a practice centered on experimentation with color, materials, and composition, working primarily with oil, acrylic, watercolor, and mixed media. Her work is held in public and private collections, including institutions, companies, and international collectors.

Her paintings are characterized by an expressive use of color and a strong connection to the natural environment. Drawing inspiration from daily experiences such as walking and cycling, Maaskant gathers impressions of light, atmosphere, and seasonal change, which she later translates into dynamic and balanced compositions. Her creative process is guided by continuous experimentation, arranging and reworking visual elements in search of harmony and tension. Nature plays a central role in her work, both as a source of inspiration and as a subject through which she reflects on environmental change and the transformation of contemporary landscapes.

Maaskant has exhibited regularly in galleries, art fairs, and institutional spaces in the Netherlands and internationally since the late 1990s. Her work has been presented at venues including Galerie ECCE in Rotterdam, The Colorfield Performance, Art Eindhoven, Galerie RRMND in Roermond, and exhibitions in Germany and France. Alongside her artistic practice, she maintains an active teaching career, conducting painting classes and workshops in her studio and in international programs.
